The following tips were posted to the department's Facebook page Monday: Make sure your browser is up to date.Look for HTTPS: This is a sign that the site is secure and is using encryption to protect your data.Be on the look out for phishing attempts: These could be in emails that advertise deals to good to be true. It is an attempt to get you to click on a bogus link to get your data.Create strong passwords.Use a VPN on public Wi-Fi. Public Wi-Fi is often not encrypted and unsecure.Use your credit card. Most cards have added protections for consumers."Be smart," police said on Facebook. "If the deal seems too good to be true, it probably is!"
