Presenter
Celeste Nevarez, Chief of Clinical Services, Master’s in counseling (LPC-S)
Agenda
Most mental health professionals have a working definition of ethics, which is simply: “The rules of conduct of my profession”. Our professional codes of ethics often add a word like “enforceable” to further delineate the importance of professional ethics.
Ethical standards are generally written in broad statements and apply in varied roles and contexts. These guidelines remind us that ethical standards are not exhaustive and even when conduct is not specifically addressed by an ethical standard it does not mean that the conduct is necessarily either ethical or unethical.
