Description

"You're going out there a youngster, but you've got to come back a star!" The 1933 film that launched the Golden Age of Hollywood musicals, 42nd Street traces the creation of a Broadway show from its first casting call through its blockbuster opening night--when the leading lady twists her ankle and a young chorus girl (Ruby Keller) takes her place and becomes a star. Starring Ruby Keeler and Dick Powell, and featuring Ginger Rogers and choreography by Busby Berkley, 42nd Street received Oscar nominations for "Best Picture" and "Best Sound." And, in a testament to this memorable story, 42nd Street was revived as a hit musical on Broadway in 1980, nearly 50 years after it first hit movie theaters.
