MILTON, MA — The Milton Select Board declared Thursday as a "Day of Reflection" in the town as a way to express that "Black Lives Matter and we Stand in Solidarity Against Racism." The Select Board's decree recognizes that overt and subtle acts of racism and injustice undermines the promise of justice and equality in the town. And that "targeting of people and the oppression, racism, injustice and violence they suffer is abhorrent to our shared humanity." The order referenced the recent killings of George Floyd, of Minneapolis, Breonna Taylor, of Louisville and Ahmaud Arbery in Georgia that have "once again shocked the conscience of law-abiding and peace-loving people everywhere." The decree asked that residents take the day, and then time time to continually "reflect on how they can actively help to eradicate oppression, racism, injustice, and violence against people of color from our town and our country." The full order can be found here.
