Description
MILTON, MA — As a time when local police departments are looking for ways to connect with the community — and perhaps establish more trust amid nationwide protests against police brutality and systemic racism in recent weeks — the coronovirus health crisis is making developing that connection even more difficult in Milton.
Milton police announced on Wednesday that the National Night Out - annually held in the first week of August where the community is invited to come out to meet and talk with police officers — will have to be canceled this summer due to expected coronavirus social gathering restrictions.
Milton police are also canceling the department's two-week Summer Program (formerly DARE).
"We are unable to accommodate the numerous safety restrictions nor secure the necessary outside vendors and partners we need to run these events," Milton police said. "We are very sad about this, but we look forward to bringing both events back to the community we love in 2021."
