EAST HAMPTON, NY — After Gov. Andrew Cuomo signed an executive order in June mandating that all police departments in New York embrace reform and community policing, towns have been inviting residents to weigh in.
Cuomo threatened to revoke state funding for agencies that do not adhere.
The East Hampton town board and East Hampton Town Police Chief Michael Sarlo held a listening session on Oct. 29 to begin "the collaborative process of developing a plan to ensure mutual trust and respect between our community and our dedicated police force, as mandated by New York State," town officials said.
To keep the dialogue ongoing, a dedicated email address has been set up to receive comments from the public at [email protected].
Information regarding this process can be found in the "New York State Police Reformand Reinvention Collaborative: Resources and Guide for Public Officials and Citizens".
