Drexel Avenue Rehabilitation Set To Begin Construction Monday

OAK CREEK, WI — Construction is set to begin Monday on Drexel Avenue between 13th Street and Howell Avenue, the City of Oak Creek announced Wednesday in a news release. Work will begin on the westbound lanes, and when they reopen, work will transfer over to the eastbound lanes. The first closures will last about 60 days. When work begins on the eastbound lanes, it's expected to last about 50 days, the city says. Rawson Avenue was suggested by the city as a detour during the work. Access to businesses and homes on the stretch will remain open, as will access across the street at 6th Street, and 10th Street and Wildwood. The project will bring repairs to the pavement, storm sewers, curbs and gutters, plus improvements to pedestrian facilities, according to the city's website. Workers will use a process called diamond grinding to remove surface irregularities from the pavement, giving it a "corduroy" texture which is meant to improve the smoothness of riding over the pavement while reducing the likelihood of hydroplaning.
