WISCONSIN — Organic zucchini sold at Walmart in 18 states, including Wisconsin, are being taken off the shelves after health officials announced a possible salmonella contamination. World Variety Produce, based in Los Angeles, voluntarily recalled a batch of organic zucchini that could be contaminated with salmonella, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration announced on Tuesday. Salmonella can cause serious illness and can even be deadly to people with weak immune systems, small children and elderly people. Symptoms of salmonella include fever, diarrhea — which can be bloody — nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain, the FDA said. In rare cases, the disease can get in the bloodstream and cause arterial infections, endocarditis and arthritis. Organic Marketside Zucchini was sent to stores in Arizona, Arkansas, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, Oklahoma, South Dakota and Texas. Nobody has reported an illness yet, the FDA said. The administration found that a single lot of imported zucchini tested positive for salmonella after routine sampling. Here are the descriptions on the recalled product. Brand: Organic MarketsidePackaging: Clear Overwrap TrayPack/Weight: 2ct / Net Wt. 6oz (170g)UPC Code: 6-81131-22105-4Case Lot Number: 38706503
