Press release from ACES: April 22, 2022 ACES at Chase, a Public STEAM Academy on a Private Campus, and Premier Interdistrict Magnet School for Grades 6 – 8, is sounding off and excited to share a new partnership with the Waterbury Symphony Orchestra. This partnership has been orchestrated to enhance the ACES at Chase Music Program of Choice. Students in band and orchestra are receiving small group instruction, on a rotating basis, with professional musicians from the greater Waterbury, Harford, and New Haven areas, in addition to the incomparable work and instruction of Instrumental Music Teacher, Rachel Smithson. "As we emerge from the isolation of the pandemic, we realize that music has the power to heal, help us form strong bonds, and aid in all aspects of social and intellectual development," said Doug Donato, Interim Executive Director of the Waterbury Symphony Orchestra. "We are thrilled to be able to partner with ACES at Chase and provide professional musicians to act as mentors in the classroom. WSO is proud to support the music education of our future musicians and audience members!" The wind, brass, percussion, and string students meet with these teaching artists and musician mentors to learn and review skills in addition to preparing for the upcoming Spring Concerts scheduled for June 2022. The Waterbury Symphony Orchestra maintains a firm commitment to producing education programs rooted in the core belief that the study of musical instruments and participation in musical performance is an essential part of every child's education, every citizen's contribution to society, and every person's spiritual totality. ACES at Chase encourages all students to explore creativity, self-expression, and problem solving through our performance-based music and visual arts programs. Both programs provide traditional and digital media. Each unit of study focused on the "A (Arts)" in STEAM develops multi-sensory skills. In addition to general music, we offer three ensemble choices, which include band, orchestra, and chorus. The art and music curriculums showcase multicultural works of art and music, which recognize our diverse student body and the community at large. Students are engaged to respond by analyzing the art and connecting through personal experience, history, culture, and integration with other subject areas. This press release was produced by ACES.
