Here are the top three stories today in Roanoke: Roanoke City taxpayers see an increase in property tax bills due to the recent supply shortage affecting the car market. The property tax bills are based on the value of vehicles using the JD Power price guide. The Commissioner of Revenue, Ryan LaFountain, reports that if officials used the clean retail value instead of the JD Power price guide, the property tax bills would be even higher. LaFountain also stressed the tax bill spike was not a decision made by the city. (WSLS 10)The intersection at Yellow Mountain Road and Jefferson Street was closed on Friday morning due to a ruptured water line. The incident should be repaired by the start of the weekend, according to the Western Virginia Water Authority. As of Friday, repair crews have reportedly stopped the water flow while isolating the break. (WDBJ)Roanoke City Public Schools spoke with experts on Wednesday about addressing school safety. The discussion was reportedly necessary after three incidents that occurred this spring. Some topics included the installation of metal detectors, clear backpacks, and limiting cell phone usage while on school property.
