BAY SHORE, NY -An eco-friendly, alternative energy service will soon become available to the Bay Shore area. Dandelion Energy, a geothermal heating and cooling company, will open its doors on Tuesday in a ribbon cutting ceremony at its new facility, located at 48 Drexel Drive. The event will take place at 11 a.m. and will include remarks from Dandelion CEO Michael Sachse,, Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone, and LI PSEG Director for Energy Efficiency and Renewables Mike Voltz. According to its website, geothermal heating and cooling works by moving temperature-conducting fluid through an underground loop of pipes beneath or near your home. The ground five feet below the surface maintains a constant temperature year round, its website says. This allows the geothermal system to draw heat from the air in your home and transfers it to the ground in the summer. In the winter, it draws heat from the ground and transfers it to your home. So far, 35 homeowners on Long Island have already signed up to soon have a new geothermal system heating and cooling their homes. To date, two homeowners already have the system installed.
