I had to put my cat to sleep today...17 years old

A little over 8 years ago my cat was in kidney failure, they didn't give her much chance to survive but after a week in the specialty clinic she recovered to stage 2. This required a special diet and daily IV fluids, complicating things were having another cat and figuring out how to feed them separately! I managed and she lived in comfort for another 8 years. Last year she began having seizures, we put her on phenabarbitol and this stabilized the past year. I had to make the difficult decision to put her down today, she began experiencing complications about two months ago, they stabilized but she was never the same so I knew the time was short. She stopped eating and lost another pound. This was the most difficult decision I've ever had to make and I'm not sure it's hit me yet. She slept right next to me all these years regardless of who I shared a bed with. This was the first time I'd ever truly bonded with an animal and I'm going to miss her so much!
