Description

Press release from the Arapahoe County Government: April 21, 2022 Arapahoe County Open Spaces, Public Works & Development, and Jalisco International, Inc. will start construction of the Parker Road Overpass for High Plains Trail on Monday, April 25. The Open Spaces project will improve regional trail connectivity, provide a safer crossing at S. Parker Road, improve neighborhood access to the larger Denver regional trail network, and enhance quality of life for residents. Funding for the trail connection project is provided by Arapahoe County, Town of Parker, City of Aurora, City of Centennial, Douglas County, and E-470 Public Highway Authority. The partner group has also secured funding from Denver Regional Council of Governments (DRCOG) and a grant from Great Outdoors Colorado (GOCO). This $5.2 million multimodal project will connect two major regional trails including the Cherry Creek Trail and the High Plains Trail. The first phase of the regional connection project will take approximately six months to complete and install a grade-separated overcrossing at Parker Road, which will connect to the existing Cherry Creek Trail. Work will begin just north of Preservation Park & Trailhead and will move east across S. Parker Road (near mile marker 63). Planned improvements include: pedestrian bridge installation, trail enhancements, and landscape/irrigation improvements. Construction will start April 25, 2022. Construction for this first phase is scheduled to be completed in Fall 2022. The next phase of trail construction will start in the City of Aurora once the Kings Point Development begins construction. Parker Road is currently open without closures. However, there may be occasional right-lane closures required for construction activities and project improvements which include: pedestrian bridge installation, trail improvements, and landscape/irrigation improvements. Travel impacts are not expected until the end of the project, when the bridge is placed overnight over Parker Road. Please follow pedestrian signage and use crosswalks or follow the directions of project flaggers and/or team members to safely cross the work zone. Large equipment is currently in operation on site, please be aware and maintain a safe distance from construction activities. All work is weather dependent and subject to change. Visit the Parker/HighPlains web page to stay up to date as the construction moves forward. This press release was produced by the Arapahoe County Government.
