MILFORD, MA — State health officials are reporting a concerning trend in coronavirus cases in Milford. On Wednesday, the town moved from green to yellow on the state's map of coronavirus hot spots, which indicates a rise in cases. The average daily number of new cases rose from 2.7 on Sept. 9 to 4.4 on Wednesday. Out of 1,414 tests performed over the last 14 days, 23 have tested positive. According to the state, Milford's positive test rate was 1.63 percent, nearly double the statewide average of .90 percent. The town has not updated its cases numbers since Aug. 19, but Milford saw a large drop in new cases beginning around June 3. Cases peaked near the end of April. Over the course of the pandemic, Milford has tallied 731 total cases. In some cases, Milford has been quick to act on coronavirus restrictions. Milford health officials ordered town residents to use face coverings in public about a week before the statewide order went into effect. The town also moved to levy heavy fines against a property owner over a 200-person party held in August.
