PARAMUS, NJ — A number of Paramus residents filed petitions earlier this month to run for Bergen County Committee or a local office, according to the county clerk's office. The township will have a new mayor next year. Current Mayor Richard LaBarberia is not seeking re-election, as the New Jersey Globe reported in March. Democrat MariaElena Bellinger and Republican Christopher DiPiazza, both current council members, filed for candidacy. Democrats John Tabor and Mark J. Distler are running for Township Council against incumbent Republicans Jeanne T. Weber and Jorge E. Quintana. And, a number of Republicans have filed to unseat Paramus resident James Tedesco III, the County Executive. The 2022 primary election takes place on Tuesday, June 7 in New Jersey. The winners will earn their party's nomination for the general election, which takes place on Tuesday, Nov. 8, and will also include independent candidates. Voters have until May 17 to register for the primary election. Each district may have one man and one woman elected to County Committee.
