MILFORD, MA — The Milford Board of Health will hold another flu shot clinic this month as coronavirus — which boasts similar symptoms to flu — cases skyrocket.
Health officials have expressed fears about a "twindemic," where hospitals are overwhelmed by people seeking treatment for both influenza and coronavirus. Gov. Charlie Baker has also mandated that all students from preschool to college get flu shots before the end of December.
The clinic will be held at the Milford High School cafeteria on Dec. 16 from 4 to 6 p.m. The shots are for any resident over 6 months old. Residents should wear short sleeves.
Milford hosted two flu shot clinics earlier this fall at the high school. Almost 450 residents got vaccinated, according to the Board of Health.
"This year, getting a flu shot is more important than ever," the Board of Health said in a statement following the October clinics. "The flu vaccine prevents illness and prevents spreading flu to loved ones who cannot receive their vaccine. Since the flu and COVID-19 have many similar symptoms, there could be more confusion about which illness people have. Further, there are limited medical resources which must be reserved for the most serious illnesses which are not able to be prevented with vaccines or treatments."
