Description

MORRIS TOWNSHIP, NJ — Officials repaired a power line and extinguished a fire after a wire fell Thursday afternoon in Morris Township. But as of Friday morning, police don't know what caused the wire to fall. The incident took place on West Hanover Avenue, prompting officials to close the road at about 4:30 p.m. Thursday between Ketch Road and Chris Christie Way. At the time, 688 customers — 7.6 percent of the township — had no power, according to Jersey Central Power & Light. No one was injured. And as far as property goes, only grass got damaged, according to Morris Township Police Cpt. James Perruso. But the cause of the incident remains a mystery. "At this time, it is unknown what caused the downed wire," Perruso told Patch on Friday morning. "It was not due to a car crash, and there are no signs of criminal mischief or foul play." There is no longer a threat to the public, police said. Thanks for reading. Have a news tip? Email [email protected].
