FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: April 21, 2022
The City of Aberdeen, Aberdeen Main Street receives a grant award from the Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development.
The Aberdeen Main Street Designation has been awarded eighty-three thousand dollars ($83,000.00) for its project entitled Main Street Business District Improvements.
The Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD) is administering two separate Community Safety Works grant opportunities – one for FACILITY IMPROVEMENTS and one for community-wide BUSINESS DISTRICT IMPROVEMENTS. Purpose of the funding is to encourage the implementation of crime prevention strategies through physical design improvements and community vigilance and maintenance.
Aberdeen's downtown main street area has been perceived as unsafe. Even though statistics reflected just the opposite, this grant will provide an extra layer of security to our community, visitors, and businesses. Aberdeen's downtown is growing with new businesses and more activities, and a safe, friendly downtown is important to the City of Aberdeen.
This project will be completed by December 2022.
