Suspicious Deaths Investigation Underway At Concord's Marsh Loop Trail

CONCORD, NH — Concord police have spent the better part of Thursday evening searching the Broken Ground Trails for evidence connected to the missing Concord Heights couple case. Around 11 p.m., the New Hampshire Attorney General's Office said authorities were officially responding to the suspicious deaths of two adults. After spending a good portion of the day with New Hampshire State Police as well as the Central NH Special Operations Unit, the capital region's SWAT team, searching for Djeswende and Stephen Reid of Alton Woods Drive, police shifted to the Marsh Loop Trail off Portsmouth Street around 6 p.m. It is unknown what drew police to the trail but, according to scanner chatter, officers began checking license plates of vehicles at the trail parking area and then, began searching the trail. After about 90 minutes, police requested Concord firefighters to the scene as well as ATVs. One officer requested another officer to give both paper and plastic evidence bags to the firefighters. Credit: City of Concord At one point, one officer asked another to use GIS to check and see whether the property they were on was owned by Eversource or the city of Concord. Eversource has a large power substation in the center of the trail system. Around 8:30 p.m., a state medical examiner arrived at the scene. The New Hampshire State Police were not at the scene at the time Patch was taking pictures and attempting to get more information about what was going on. State police tend to send the Major Crime Unit to any situation where a homicide may have occurred. Hours later, state officials released a statement saying they were now involved in the investigation. "Additional information will be released as it becomes available while protecting the integrity of the investigation," said Michael Garrity, the departments' director of communications.
