MILFORD, MA — A political action committee with ties to Gov. Charlie Baker is stepping into the Worcester and Norfolk District state senate race between incumbent Republican Ryan Fattman and Milford Democrat Christine Crean. The Massachusetts Majority Independent Expenditure PAC (MMIE) has spent over $15,000 on mail advertisements to support Fattman, according to an Oct. 28 campaign finance filing. The Fattman spending was part of $148,000 the super PAC dropped into various races across the state this week. Fattman got the second-highest amount of support, second only to Weymouth Republican Patrick O'Connor, who got just under $16,000. Crean, the former chair of the Milford Democratic Town Committee, was already being out-raised by Fattman, who's going for a fourth term. She had just under $13,000 on hand at the end of September compared to Fattman's $192,000. MMIE is a relatively new player in Massachusetts politics. The super PAC was created in spring 2019, and stepped into a raft of local races last fall, supporting candidates like Marlborough Mayor Arthur Vigeant and Framingham Councilor Janet Leombruno. Baker does not directly influence the super PAC, but is "supportive" of its spending, Commonwealth Magazine reported last year.
