MILFORD, MA — A group raising money for a revitalization of Milford's Draper Memorial Park says that the fundraiser is only about 40 percent toward its goal — and with only three weeks left to take in donations. The Milford War Memorial Revitalization Committee is trying to raise $42,500 to complete upgrades at the park, including a restoration of the park's centerpiece, a statue of Milford native and Union Army Gen. William Franklin Draper. The money will also be used to upgrade lighting, repair pathways and landscaping. As of Monday, the fundraiser had raised $16,735 with an Oct. 12 deadline approaching. MassDevelopment will be matching donations up until that date. Draper is Milford's main war memorial park, featuring monuments to veterans of World War II, the Korean War, Vietnam and the Gulf War. The Draper statue is of particular importance. It was designed by Daniel Chester French, who also designed the Lincoln Memorial. Donations for the project can be made online, or by mailing a check to Milford Town Hall. Write "Draper Park revitalization" in the memo line.
