Press release from the City of Shakopee: April 22, 2022 The Shakopee City Council met Tuesday, April 19. Among the meeting highlights: Council green lights proposal for architectural services for River City Centre The City Council approved a proposal from RSP Architects Ltd. for urban design and architectural work on reimagining the look of River City Centre, located between First Avenue and County Highway 101 downtown. Council approves apartment building on West End The City Council approved a 112-unit apartment building that will include 205 surface and underground parking spaces, located south of the VA Clinic on Marystown Road. City Council declares no need for environmental impact statement for Canterbury Eastern Development The City Council approved a resolution declaring no need for an environmental impact statement for the proposed 19,000-seat amphitheater planned at the northeast corner of County Highway 83 and Unbridled Avenue. An Environmental Assessment Worksheet identified ample on-site and remote parking, traffic management tactics, and sound mitigation efforts that will be implemented in the architecture and design of the amphitheater. City Council OKs applications for congressionally-directed spending The City Council approved two measures to apply for congressionally-directed spending for the Shakopee Riverfront Cultural Corridor and the Regional Innovation Hub. Council approves increase in BOAA/Planning Commission pay The City Council approved an increase in pay for BOAA/Planning Commission members from $50 to $100 per meeting. City Council approves assessments for 2021 street and utility reconstruction The City Council approved assessments for 2021 street and utility reconstruction. City policy is to assess 30% of the street improvements to the benefitting properties. Council gratefully accepts Shakopee hockey donation The City Council gratefully accepted a donation of historic Shakopee hockey items from John Schroers. Schroers played on the first Shakopee Hockey high school team in 1972. In honor of the 50th anniversary of Shakopee Hockey, Schroers donated a framed set of photos from the first team, as well as a framed jersey from the early hockey days.
