Press release from Tulsa Public Schools: April 19, 2022 Tulsa Public Schools offers a student-centered nutrition program that provides cutting-edge, nutritious food options based on feedback and insights from students. The district's meals program uses locally sourced ingredients, ensuring that students have fresh meal options daily in a welcoming dining environment. The school meals program includes a range of offerings to ensure students have access to nutritious meals as soon as the school day begins with grab-and-go breakfast options. Students also have regular opportunities to give feedback on their meals, and the district uses those student preferences to customize menu offerings and make changes and improvements within a six-week period. The child nutrition team gave cameras to students to capture photos in the cafeteria at their school and provide feedback in a focus group project called "Captured." Some students said: "We love the fruit parfaits. The fresh blueberries are good quality." "The chicken sandwich is our favorite lunch. Everybody wants it." "Lunch is nutritious and yummy!" "We like that the cafeteria staff works hard to make us a good lunch." In December, culinary students at Hale High School took part in a demonstration with the child nutrition executive chef. All students had the opportunity to grab a free lunch prepared by the culinary team. The menu featured a Fiesta Build a Bowl with a variety of selections from chicken to vegetarian and toppings including salsa, guacamole, and peppers. Our child nutrition team also provides boxed lunches for field trips, including this one for students visiting the Discovery Lab. Check out more photos from our child nutrition team here.
