MELROSE, MA — It's no surprise Shey Peddy made her mark as late as possible Wednesday night. The 30-year-old who only last year made her WNBA debut finds greatness on her own time. The former Melrose High supernova hit a 3-pointer at the buzzer to help the Phoenix Mercury to a 1-point victory in a first-round winner-takes-all playoff game in Bradenton, Fl. "It's the best feeling I've felt, probably ever," Peddy said after the game. "That was a dream-come-true shot right there. It's like a fairy tale moment." Peddy's prayer gave the Mercury an 85-84 win over the Washington Mystics — the same team that waived her just last month. Washington was also the team that gave Peddy her first WNBA chance as a 29-year-old, an age not usually associated with rookies. Peddy, from Roxbury, played at Melrose as a Metco student from 2004-07. She left as the school's all-time leading scorer, girls or boys.
