DETROIT — A drunken driver rear-ended a Michigan State Police cruiser Friday morning on the Southfield Freeway just north of Interstate 96 in Detroit just after midnight, officials said.
Two officers were taken to the hospital and treated for injuries, officials said. Both were later released from the hospital.
The 38-year-old driver from Oak Park was driving a Jeep Grand Wagoneer south on the Southfield Freeway when the vehicle crashed into the back of the state police cruiser. Officers had been monitoring an unrelated traffic crash in the right lane on the freeway, officials said.
Officers determined during a preliminary investigation the driver was drunk. They also found a pistol in the Jeep during the search, officials said.
The driver was placed in the Detroit Detention Center, officials said.
