TUSCALOOSA, AL — Two Tuscaloosa teenagers have been taken into custody following a shooting that injured a woman at Hay Court Apartments Friday morning. Click here to subscribe to our free Tuscaloosa Daily newsletter and breaking news alerts The Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit said in an update Friday afternoon that Tuscaloosa Police officers responded just after 10 a.m. to a shots fired call that had been received roughly 30 minutes prior. Violent Crimes Unit Captain Marty Sellers, the co-commander of the unit, said a TPD officer spotted the two teenagers shooting at each other at 10:07 a.m., before attempting to chase one of them and ultimately taking a 17-year-old boy into custody. The first suspect apprehended was a resident of Hay Court apartments, while a second suspect — a 13-year-old boy — was located at a nearby gas station and taken into custody. As Patch previously reported, a woman was injured by gunfire in the second shooting and was treated for injuries not believed to be life-threatening. Sellers said the 13 year old was charged with attempted murder, certain persons forbidden to possess a firearm and second degree receiving stolen property for being in possession of a stolen handgun in relation to the earlier shooting at 9:39 a.m. The younger suspect was placed in the Tuscaloosa Juvenile Detention after being taken into custody. He then said the 17 year old was charged as an adult with attempted murder, certain persons forbidden to possess a firearm, shooting into an occupied dwelling and second degree assault. Due to being juveniles, state law now dictates that the identities of the two suspects can not be released. The older suspect, Sellers said, was transported to the Tuscaloosa County Jail, where his bond was set at $70,500. Sellers then explained the two shootings are believed to have stemmed from remarks made on social media by one of the suspects. Have a news tip or suggestion on how I can improve Tuscaloosa Patch?
