Downtown Melrose Appears To Be Getting New Bank

MELROSE, MA — It appears as if Wakefield Co-operative Bank will be coming to downtown Melrose as part of a long-awaited Main Street development. The Melrose Historic District Commission is scheduled to rule next Tuesday on a signage request from the bank for 530 Main St. The development at the site of what once was Moynihan Plaza is under the commission's jurisdiction. A phone call to the bank was not immediately returned. Wakefield Co-op would join Cafeè Nero as the commercial tenants at 530 Main St. Nero told Patch in January of 2019 that it was hoping to open by the end of that year. The development will have 10 residential units in the two floors above. Two of those units will be studios and the rest will be two-bedrooms. There will be outdoor seating in the rear.
