MEDFORD, MA — The Medford Public Library Foundation held an ice cream social Saturday to celebrate Michael Bloomberg's $3 million gift to the new library. The socially distant event also launched a final community push to raise the last portion of the building's cost.
"This is an important moment," Ellen Tonello, chair of the Medford Public Library Trustees, said in a statement. "We have raised $4.5 million and now turn to the community to contribute the last $500,000."
Colleen's and C.B. Scoops supplied the event with nearly 600 free ice cream cones. Families, MPLF supporters, library followers and ice cream lovers showed up to beat the summer heat.
"Thank you to Colleen's, C.B. Scoops, and the MPLF for making such a fun way to celebrate the new library," Mayor Breanna Lungo-Koehn said in a statement. "We are thankful to all community members who are able to contribute and help us toward our goals for the new library, and to all community partners who have gotten us to where we are today."
