Join guest presenters Gigi Woolery and Mai Ide to explore Sashiko, sustainability, and the practice of mending.
The Art of Mending: Sustainability and Sashiko Workshop is an exploration of textile sustainability and mending as both a cultural, environmental, and artistic practice. As a collaboration between the Student Sustainability Center and the PSU Textile Arts Department, guest presenters Gigi Woolery (PSU Art Practice Alum) and Mai Ide (PSU Art Practice graduate student) will be exploring Sashiko, an artistic Japanese cultural method of mending and embroidery, combined with a basic demonstration of how to mend fabric. Come learn how to embroider, create art, and explore sustainable fashion, culture, and history on May 14th from 1-3 PM in the NASCC Community Center!
Light snacks, coffee, and tea will be provided. Sashiko and embroidery materials will be provided courtesy of the PSU Textile Arts Department.
