Playground, Pool Improvements Up For Medford CPA Funding

MEDFORD, MA — The city is seeking input on six project proposals that could be funded by the Community Preservation Act in Fiscal Year 2021. A virtual meeting will be held Wednesday, Oct. 21 from 6-7:30 p.m. to review and receive feedback on applications submitted to the Community Preservation Committee. The following projects are up for funding: Carr Park Design Study for potential renovationsDugger Park Tennis Court reconstructionGillis Park Master Plan Study to evaluate the area for potential renovations with a focus on ADA/AAB accessibilityPlayground resurfacing at Tufts, Capen, and Cummings ParksPlaystead Park basketball court renovationsTufts Pool improvementsInput from the community meeting will help to refine the proposals before they are formally presented to the CPC during their meetings on Nov. 5 and Nov. 12. The CPC will deliberate and vote on recommending funding for these projects at their December meeting, after which the funding must be approved by City Council. "Medford's parks and open spaces are some of our most valuable community resources, and I am committed to prioritizing improvements and renovations," Mayor Breanna Lungo-Koehn said in a statement. "To be sure these spaces best meet the needs of all residents, we want everyone to have an opportunity to weigh in on these and any future applications. The CPA funding is your tax dollars at work, and they should represent your priorities for our city. In addition to these projects, the Mayor's Office, Recreation Department, Parks Department, and Office of Community Development are also working on a plan for how to use CDBG funding for other eligible parks. Eligible parks include Logan, Morrison, Brooks, Tufts, and Columbus Parks." Review each proposal here.
