COMMACK, NY — Preliminary site work on the construction of the Fountaingate Gardens independent living complex in Commack has begun, Gurwin Healthcare Systems said in a news release Wednesday. The 10-acre, 129-apartment community for residents 62-years-and-over will be located on Gurwin's Commack campus. The proposed community recently hosted a drive-by event for its Founders Club members — those who have already placed a deposit on a residence — to celebrate the infrastructure renovations. More than 35 Founders drove onto the campus, where they were greeted with raffle prizes, music and a complimentary "dinner to go." Drivers spoke with Stuart B. Almer, president and CEO, and see the construction site, all from the safety of their vehicle. "This is really exciting," Bonnie Soman, a Fountaingate Gardens Founders Club member, said in a news release. "I'm so thrilled to see things finally moving! We can't wait to move into our new home." Gurwin recently received town approvals allowing infrastructure work to begin. Groundbreaking for the project is expected in fall 2020. "We're so glad that work has begun on our Fountaingate Gardens community," Almer said. "Gurwin is known for our innovative approach to providing all levels of care for seniors on Long Island. Compassion, clinical excellence, and state-of-the-art facilities have cemented our reputation as the health care community of choice for seniors in the New York area. Now, that reputation of excellence will extend to a new lifestyle option for active, independent older adults on Long Island." Fountaingate Gardens is located on Hauppauge Road in Commack, minutes from highway access. The complex is envisioned to capture a charming, village-like ambiance that offers a dynamic lifestyle to residents. Dining venues, a fitness center, social gathering places, and other appealing amenities will be conveniently located just a few steps from each residence. Winding paths will meander through landscaped grounds, and a winding, bubbling brook will create a scenic oasis for residents to enjoy, according to Gurwin. Residences in the new community will be in two elegant building styles and may be customized to each resident's preference. The project is already almost 65 percent sold, with some of the most popular floor plans nearly or completely unavailable. Gurwin will also hold Virtual Lunch & Learn sessions for interested residents on June 24 and 26 at a variety of times.
