Music & Conversations in "Music and Human Conditions" with Stefano Miceli, Piano and Steve Everett, composer on Friday, May 6, 2022 at 7pm Appia Entertainment Productions LLC in partnership with the Greenwich Arts Council is proud to present the acclaimed international pianist and conductor Stefano Miceli with Steve Everett, composer and Provost and Senior Vice President at The Graduate Center at CUNY. How do acoustics influence our emotions? How does sound work in our mind before we are born? What are the universal qualities of music across our cultures? Through a unique and multi-faceted experience, The Greenwich Concert Series "Music & Conversations" presents a collaborative lecture featuring nationally famed Steve Everett in conjunction to an illustrative performance by one of the world’s leading pianists, Stefano Miceli; topics touched upon the cognitive benefits of sound and music and how they function on social, psychological and cultural levels throughout our lives. Stefano Miceli will perform music by Chopin, Mozart, Schumann, among others. Steve Everett Mr. Everett brings three decades of academic leadership experience at public and private research universities to his role as Provost and Senior Vice President of the Graduate Center at CUNY (The City University of New York) His area of academic research is music. Among his recent projects, Everett collaborated on an interdisciplinary study of the impact of sound and ultrasound on epilepsy. He received a D.M.A. in Music Composition from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, following two master’s degrees in music theory and trumpet performance and a BA in Music History and Literature from Florida State University. Prior to joining the Graduate Center in August 2021, Everett served as Provost and Executive Vice President, as well as Professor of Music at Adelphi University. From 2013 to 2018, Everett was Dean of the College of Architecture, Design, and the Arts and Professor of Music, with a courtesy appointment in Neurology, at the University of Illinois at Chicago. There, he led four schools, with over 200 faculty in architecture, art, theatre, music, and design as well as a museum, contemporary art gallery, and an innovation center. From 1991 to 2013, Everett served in a range of leadership roles at Emory University, including President of the University Senate and Chair of the Faculty Council. He concurrently directed the Provost’s Center for Faculty Development and Excellence, overseeing faculty professional development, including teaching and learning workshops for faculty and seminars that engaged faculty and graduate students in exploring innovative research. Everett has received numerous grants and awards from agencies such as the National Science Foundation and NASA and held composition residencies at the Rockefeller Foundation Bellagio Center and Liguria Study Center for the Arts and Humanities. He has performed and conducted at venues in the U.S. and abroad, and his many interactive computer music compositions, including scores for opera and gamelan, have debuted at leading stages around the world. Stefano Miceli, Piano Mr. Miceli is one of the foremost italian conductors and pianists around the world. He has earned the applause of audiences at Berliner Philharmonie, Sydney Opera House, Leipzig Gewandhaus, La Fenice Opera in Venice, Beijing Forbidden City Concert Hall, and Carnegie hall. Miceli dedicates part of his time in teaching and directing the Greenwich Piano Institute, and at Adelphi University as a faculty member . He is the Music Director of the Adelphi Symphony Orchestra. He has been the Principal Guest Conductor at the Leipzig Philharmonic and at Cameristi della Fenice in Venice, and Music Director of the Orchestra Sinfonica Italiana. Currently Miceli is the President and the Artistic Director of the Milano Metropolitan Orchestra, Music Director of the Adelphi Symphony Orchestra and founder of the Greenwich Concert Series “Music & Conversations” for his Greenwich community and music lovers. Mr. Miceli is a recording artist for Appia Records USA and Steinway Spirio Recording.
