MEDFORD, MA — Three Medford police officers were honored for helping to deliver a baby girl Oct. 8. Officers Dean Bruno, Matthew Nestor and Benjamin Franzese quickly responded to the home after the child's mother, Nan Qin, knew she would not be able to make it to the hospital.
The officers were able to assist Qin with the safe delivery of her daughter.
"Despite the fact they are not medical professionals, they were able to calmly guide me through the labor process which helped my baby girl arrive in this world safely," Qin said in a statement. "They were knowledgeable and guided me through this process, and I wanted to show my appreciation and gratitude."
Last week, Mayor Breanna Lungo-Koehn and Police Chief Jack Buckley joined Qin and her family – husband Bowen Gao, son Ian and new daughter Riley – to thank the officers. Lungo-Koehn presented them with official citations, and the police department gave Riley one-of-a-kind Medford onesies.
"Everyone, meet one of Medford's newest residents: Riley Gao!" Lungo-Koehn wrote on Facebook Thursday. "Riley arrived in grand fashion on October 8, 2020, thanks to the help of three Medford Police Officers."
