Join us to celebrate Dhoruba's work, learn more about the collection, and write notes to the artist. Dhoruba is a 29-year-old Afro-Puerto Rican artist and poet from Albany, NY. He’s been incarcerated for 12 years now and finds that this journey has allowed him to grow in ways he never would’ve imagined. Finding art as a passion within the last few years has allowed him to see his world, and others, through a new lens of grace, beauty, and curiosity. As a student in the Bard Prison Initiative, he is currently pursuing a bachelor’s in Biology and has hopes of attaining a master's in social work to work in public health or social work when he returns home. Thrift 2 Fight is honored to celebrate Dhoruba Shuaib's artwork on Saturday, April 29th from 5:30 to 7 pm. Dhoruba's family member Chelsea will read his statement, and the audience will write notes to the artist which will be sent to him afterwards. NOTE: Masks required! We will provide extras just in case.
