It doesn't matter if you are in private school, what works for our kids is specialized and unique. Let's find out what our kids need to thrive! Verify you have a comprehensive IEP and find out your choices. Come to Square Peg Union's next meetup and ask an educational lawyer for free. We are a support group for parents of neurodiverse kids. Square Peg Union Meetup is coming up on Sat, June 4 at 4pm Special Guest: Janeen Steel, Senior Attorney at Vanaman German LLP. She believes that education is a civil right and all students are entitled to an equal and just education. Janeen has practiced law for 22 years solely in the area of education for students with disabilities. Janeen founded Learning Rights after graduating from UCLA Law School in 1999. Learning Rights was housed at the Disability Rights Legal Center for over five years. During this formative period, the need for a stand-alone organization focused exclusively on educational equity became clear, and Learning Rights Law Center (LRLC) was launched as an independent non-profit legal services dedicated to education equity for low income students in 2005. For more than 15 years, she served as the Executive Director or Co-Executive Director managing operations including attorney supervision, training, fundraising, human resources, board management, grant writing, and strategic planning. Janeen also oversaw litigation at LRLC. She has represented hundreds of families throughout Southern California and now in Northern California. Many of her cases have been high profile civil rights and special education cases related to education. Janeen has taught at USC Law, UCLA Law, Loyola Law School, Loyola Marymount and Claremont Graduate School of Education. She is looking forward to meeting with you to discuss the current issues she has been seeing related to disability rights and education and how to advocate for your children.
