MEDFORD, MA — For those of us who lived it, 2020 is a year we'd just as soon forget. But future Medford generations will get to see what life was like for us through a time capsule, which was recently installed in a cornerstone at the new public library. The capsule is filled with photo collages of events from the last few years, as well as the history of the former building, photos, library newsletters, library cards, music by local artists, documents about COVID-19, masks and hand sanitizer. In March, Mayor Breanna Lungo-Koehn encouraged kids to submit photos that would be hung at City Hall. Since they were unable to be showcased due to the coronavirus shutdown, the mayor added them to the time capsule, along with artwork with messages of hope, happiness and fun from 2020. City councilors Rick Caraviello and Zac Bears, State Reps. Sean Garballey and Paul Donato and Library Director Barbara Kerr all attended the event. The new library is expected to open in 2021.
