Put Your Mask On First Nurses Retreat Curated For Nurses to take a break REST, RECHARGE & REJUVENATE! Nursing care directly affects the health and well-being of our society. May is set aside to honor the hard work of nurses. Nurses are everywhere we live, work, play, learn, and worship and in every health care setting providing care to millions of people in the nation and around the world(ANA, 2022) National Nurses Month gives us an opportunity to celebrate nurses. The 2022 Nurses Month theme, “You Make A Difference,” was selected to encourage nurses, individuals, employers, other health care professionals and community leaders to recognize and promote the vast contributions and positive impact of America’s nurses. Nurses make a difference as trusted advocates who ensure individuals, families, and populations receive quality patient care and services (ANA, 2022) The Caregiver Support Foundation Inc.(CSF) Team, Volunteers, and Supporters like to join in wishing all nurses a happy Nurse's Month and honoring nurses who give so much of themselves on a daily basis. Our goal is to provide a safe and non-judgmental space where nurses can take a break, REST, RECHARGE, & REJUVENATE. In this space, experts and thought leaders will engage, educate and equip nurses with best- practice tools and strategies to help them avoid stress and burnout so they can achieve - the highest level of physical, emotional and mental well-being while taking care of patients. The world has experienced a lot of challenges during the last two years with the COVID-19 Pandemic. Connecting at a human level has seemed to be more difficult than ever. It is important for us to remember why we became nurses, what we do, and keep each other safe. Nurses are appreciated and valued and need to know. So CSF is proud to host this retreat in honor and celebration of Nurses Month 2022! Join us,on May 7 at 10:00 AM (see flyer for address) let's give back to those who take care of us daily. While this event is free, we would appreciate your donations. No amount of donation is small. Your donations will help us continue to provide support and resources for professional and family caregivers through programs like this one and our wellness Saturdays where we do health screenings and community giveaways. Eunice B. Gwanmesia, PHD, MSN, MSHCA,RNPresident/CEO Caregiver Support Foundation, IncCEO, Eunity SolutionsHostDr. Eunice Gwanmesia has been a Registered Nurse for over 24 years and also a family caregiver for over 22 years. It all started long ago, out of a series of strong life experiences that started when she left Cameroon at 21. She had recently dropped out of college, but her parents gave her a second chance to study Dental Therapy in Canada. After successfully graduating, she moved to the US with the idea of furthering her education in dentistry, but soon found out that she simply couldn’t afford it. She decided to pursue a different path by going to nursing school, but during her sophomore year, her dad was involved in a terrible accident in Cameroon, which left him in a coma for 6 months. Once he was stable enough, he came to the US for therapy. This was her first experience taking care of a loved one. Later on, in 2000 another life-changing event took place. she gave birth to an adorable, blue -eyed baby with multiple cognitive and orthopedic challenges. At the time, she did not realize how intense it would be to take care of him while also trying to balance work and family life. Transitioning from being a professional caregiver to a family caregiver is not as easy as we may think. The truth is, taking care of a loved one turned out to be a whole different experience. Around 2015, her dad's health started deteriorating, so he moved in with her family and she took care of him for six years before he passed away in January 2021. Those six years with him were heartwarming and fulfilling, but also highly stressful. She often states that her experiences remind her of the 90 million family caregivers and over 4 million professional nurses who consistently deal with the stress of caregiving on a daily basis. This and many other stressful events taught her several life lessons, especially the importance of taking care of herself so that she is whole emotionally, physically, and mentally in order to give love to others. It was the power and challenges of caregiving, along with other unexpected life events, that drove her passion for the idea of creating this nonprofit organization, with the goal of providing support and resources to caregivers, so that they could also navigate the stress and pressures of this job and take care of their mental, emotional, and physical health.
