In honor of the 20th anniversary of The Resurrectionist, we will be screening the film along with a selection of strange and unusual cinema. The screening will take place at the Magic Lantern Theater in Spokane, WA from 7 to 10 pm on June 11, 2022. The screening will be followed with a Q&A with the attending cast and crew. The line up currently includes George Higham's puppet short Annabel Lee (2001), The HP Lovecraft Historical Society's The Call of Cthulhu (2005), and Christian Matzke's short Nyarlathotep (2001). We also also planning to add some local films to our line up. The Resurrectionist is a 35 minute horror western chronicling the exploits of grave robber Ezekiel Sutter as he delves into a mystery that threatens his very soul. The film was shot exclusively in super-8 across the remote reaches of Washington State. Annabel Lee is a George Higham's stop motion telling of the classic Edgar A. Poe's poem. Annabel Lee is quintessential Poe- a haunted soul, a lost love and the nocturnal grave-quest. The epic quality of this Orphic adventure includes expressionist visions of a lone figure on a journey through a nightmarish landscape in order to be re-united with his lost love...but first he must overcome the wrath of the "Envious Angels" that ruined his world! This thrilling tale will make you believe...even a puppet can love. 19:45 minutes, US. The H.P. Lovecraft Historical Society's The Call of Cthulhu opens with a dying professor leaving his great-nephew a collection of documents pertaining to the Cthulhu Cult. Crossing decades and continents, the man begins piecing together the dread implications of the professor's inquiries. Written in 1926, the famed story is brought richly to life in the style of a classic 1920s silent movie, with a haunting original symphonic score. Using the Mythoscope™ process — a mix of modern and vintage techniques — the HPLHS has worked to create the most authentic and faithful screen adaptation of a Lovecraft story ever attempted. 47 minutes, US. Based on a another HP Lovecraft sort story, Christian Matzke's Nyarlathotep is set in the early 1920s when a traveling show comes to Arkham led by the mysterious Nyarlathotep. Like much of the population of Arkham young Dr Burke goes to see the show - but finds neither the show nor the showman are what they seem. 13 minutes, US.
