To begin Thursdays at FORGE on a light, caffeinated note, join us for "Let's Drink Coffee and Talk About..." in Roy's Place. Every week we'll set a broad topic and invite special guests who can lend their special experience, expertise, or enthusiasm. On April 21, we're talking about hackerspaces. For those unfamiliar with the concept, hackerspaces are community-operated organizations where people with common, often technical, interests can meet, socialize, and collaborate. And, boy, are there opportunities to hop on the hackerspace bandwagon in Tucson. Come and chat with Steve Menke, co-founder of Tucson Repair Cafe, about his quest for sustainability... and how to fix some of those broken household electronics you have lying around for free. But that's not all! Dirk Prather, Startup Tucson Launch Lab technician and resident expert at Xerocraft, will be there to talk about the resources and activities on offer at Tucson's makerspace, hackerspace, and public workshop. Coffee and tea will be served from 8:30-9:30am, and Thursdays at FORGE will continue upstairs in the Hub. Come for the coffee, stay for the conversation. ------------ Steve Menke was raised on a farm in central Nebraska and believes that small farms and small businesses are important to revitalizing America. Having experienced childhood stability, he adventured into wine education, extension, and research as an adult, always relishing food and wine. He currently is retired from his position as associate professor of enology at Colorado State University. He is involved in sustainability in Tucson, particularly with helping foster small and local circular economy entrepreneurs that can provide local employment, preserve environmental diversity, and build community equity.
