MEDFIELD, MA — No residents at Medfield's senior care facility have died of complications due to the coronavirus over the course of the pandemic, according to new figures released Wednesday by the state Department of Public Health. The figures released Wednesday offered the first look at how severely coronavirus has affected senior care homes across the state. Of the 6,547 coronavirus deaths in the state so far during the pandemic, just over 4,000 are connected to a nursing home. The Thomas Upham House in Medfield so far has been able to avoid deaths from COVID-19. The 42-bed facility as of Wednesday had less than 10 cases of coronavirus. It also passed the first round of inspections by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health for compliance with coronavirus protocol, scoring a perfect 28 out of 28. Health officials believe that positive tests should be 10 percent or lower before quarantine protocols can be lifted. About 17 percent of tests statewide are positive.
