Sue Abbott Lecture on flower arranging using the ancient art of Ikebono.
Learn the ancient art of Japanese flower arranging from Ikebono/Ikebana Sensei Cheryl Linck.
Ikenobō is the oldest school of floral art in Japan; developed in the 7th century from a priest’s floral offerings at the altar of a Buddhist temple. Ikebana is a modern style of Ikenobo in which freedom of expression takes precedence over classic rules. It aims to bring out the inner qualities of flowers and other live materials and express emotion, not unlike sculpture.
**Ikebana workshop: Thursday, May 12 from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. Note: only those attending the May 11 lecture are able to register for the workshop. Cost $35 per person, materials included. Registration available to lecture attendees as a different event.
Cheryl Linck has been a practitioner of ikebana for many years and has demonstrated and exhibited her designs at the Detroit Institute of Arts and the Birmingham Bloomfield Art Center. She is the past president of the Ikebana International Chapter of Detroit.
