Peabody High Alumna Runs Boston Marathon For Down's Syndrome Research

PEABODY, MA — Peabody Veterans Memorial High alumna Victoria Ploumbidis had to wait an extra two years to run 26.2 in honor of her uncle, Paul. The former Peabody resident, who recently moved to Boston, was part of the Durkin Foundation team that was slated to run in 2020 before the onset of the COVID-19 health crisis forced the cancellation of that race. But 1,099 days later, the 28-year-old and her teammates ran from Hopkinton to Boston to raise money for Down's Syndrome research. Ploumbidis completed the course in 5 hours, 20 minutes, running for her uncle Paul, who has Down's Syndrome. "I will be running for Paul, and for his caretakers who show endless amounts of love to him," she wrote on her fundraising page. "Anyone who has been fortunate enough to meet Paul knows just how much his positive attitude and contagious smile can fill your heart with love."
