WESTPORT, CT — A Westport man was arrested Tuesday on charges connected to burglaries from a Westport office building last year, according to police.
In a news release, Police Lt. Dave Wolf said a burglary was reported at the Riverside Avenue building on Nov. 11, during which various items, including cash, credit cards and checks, were stolen.
The person who reported the burglary told officers it happened sometime between 7:30 p.m. on Nov. 9 and 8:30 a.m. the following day. The suspect also tried to deposit one of the stolen checks but was unsuccessful, Wolf said.
On Nov. 13, multiple credit and debit cards and over $2,000 in cash were also reported stolen from the Riverside Avenue building. According to Wolf, police determined this burglary also happened between Nov. 9 and 10.
On Jan. 27, Westport detectives executed a search warrant at a motor home owned by Zachary Elson, 39, of Westport, in connection with another case. During this search, several items taken from the Riverside Avenue building were found, Wolf said.
Based on the investigation, police arrested Elson Tuesday morning. He was charged with third-degree burglary, third-degree larceny, fourth-degree larceny, criminal attempt at fifth-degree larceny and third-degree forgery.
Elson was held on bonds totaling $200,000 and arraigned in court later that day, according to Wolf.
