Description
METHUEN, MA — John Galvin's good deed did not go unnoticed after his friend, Eric Cochrane of Methuen, won $1 million through a Massachusetts State Lottery instant ticket game.
In fact, Cochrane repaid Galvin's act of kindness in a big way — by splitting the winnings with him.
It started when Cochrane took his son's guitar to Galvin's store for repair. Knowing Cochrane's son was battling a health issue, Galvin refused to accept payment for the fix.
Undeterred, Cochrane insisted Galvin accept at least $40. When Galvin refused, Cochrane made the decision to purchase two $20 lottery tickets. He told his friend, "If I win $1 million, we are splitting it."
An hour later, they were on their way to Massachusetts State Lottery headquarters to claim their prize.
Cochrane chose the cash option and received a one-time payment of $650,000 before taxes. He bought the winning ticket at Howe Street Superette in Methuen.
