DULLES, VA — U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers at Washington Dulles International Airport possibly harshed the buzz of many Brits hoping to observe 420 Day on Wednesday. CBP officers confiscated 150 pounds of London-bound marijuana, according to a release. While conducting outbound mail inspections, Dulles CBP officers seized 62 parcels of marijuana weighing 99 pounds on Saturday. That added to the 38 parcels weighing 51 pounds confiscated on Sunday brought the total amount of marijuana seized over the weekend to 150 pounds. "Residents across California were the busiest bud shippers. CBP officers intercepted 80 parcels of Golden State ganja, 15 parcels of Las Vegas reefer, and five parcels of sinsemilla from Seattle," according to the CBP release. Although some states have taken steps to decriminalize the possession of marijuana for personal use, bulk smuggling of weed is still against the law. In addition, federal law prohibits marijuana possession and distribution. "The internet has essentially created a singular marketplace where consumers can buy anything from anywhere across the globe; however, Customs and Border Protection reminds consumers and vendors that those transactions and commodities must still comply with applicable U.S. laws," said Daniel Escobedo, area port director for CBP's Area Port of Washington, D.C., in a release. On a typical day, the CBP seizes an average of 4,732 pounds of dangerous drugs at ports of entry across the U.S., according to the CBP.
