FREEHOLD, NJ — Anxiety, depression and substance abuse have all increased among New Jersey residents as a result of the pandemic, according to The New Jersey Hospital Association. Suicide and drug-related deaths have been on the rise in recent years across the country. According to the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, suicide is the tenth leading cause of death in the United States. "Since the COVID-19 Pandemic, there is an even larger need in our community for connection," said CFC Recovery, an addiction treatment center in Howell Township. Freehold Raceway Mall will "Paint the Mall Purple" for mental health and recovery awareness on May 1, from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m., in collaboration with the CFC Loud and Clear Foundation. Event organizers have planned a day of outreach, awareness and action. This free family event will feature guest speakers, community resources, musicians, meditation, yoga, drum circles and many other activities. Members of the CFC will also be displaying their works of art to highlight the "Art Outside The Box Mural Project," which aims to convey the message that there is hope if given a different perspective and the right tools. "CFC's programs are designed to rebuild lives from the ground up and inspire each member to achieve long-term recovery. Members are introduced to a new way of life, creating a new passion, understanding the power of giving back to the community from which they had been absent during active addiction," said CFC Recovery. The main objective of "Paint the Mall Purple" is to raise awareness, encourage action, break down stigma and provide resources for community members in need of addiction and mental health services. If you are a community resource and would like to sign up to have a table at this event, fill out the form below. https://form-usa.keela.co/pain...
