Press release from Jackson County Prosecutor: April 19, 2022 Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker is hosting a run/walk from 7 to 10 a.m. on Tuesday, April 26, 2022, in recognition of National Crime Victims Rights Week -- with the theme: Community: Better Together. All funds raised will go to The Children's Place in Kansas City. "We've seen too many young victims of crime in our community," Baker said. "This is one way we can show much we care about them, their recovery and their bright futures. We can all work more closely together. We all can do better together." The run/walk takes place beginning at 7 a.m. at the Gregg/Klice Community Center at 1600 E 17th Terrace in the 18th and Vine District of Kansas City. The run, which has no set distance, will take place on a track that circles the community center and the Kansas City Urban Youth Baseball Academy. "This run isn't about competition," Baker added. "It's about all coming together to acknowledge and support the many crime victims who too often must cope with all the hardships of crime. These are some of community's strongest and most resilient individuals. Let's stand, walk and run in support of them." The event will benefit The Children's Place, a trauma treatment Center that services the mental health needs of young children. To participate, register by making a $30 donation to The Children's Place. Register at www.childrensplacekc.org/run All participants can receive a t-shirt. Pastries and coffee will be served to participants. The Children's Place is Kansas City's specialized treatment agency serving the mental health needs of young children since 1978.
