STILLWATER, MN — An 84-year-old woman was injured during a carjacking April 13 after attending a funeral in Stillwater, according to police.
The woman parked her car around 10 a.m. that day in the 600 block of 3rd Street South to attend a funeral nearby, police said.
When she got back into her car about an hour later, a man was in the back seat and he demanded she drive him to Minneapolis, Stillwater Police Captain Brian Bruchu said Wednesday.
The woman said she couldn't drive to Minneapolis and instead drove to her home in Stillwater, Bruchu said.
As they reached her house, the man "hit her in the head" with an unknown object, then jumped in the driver's seat and fled the area, according to police.
The woman suffered minor injuries and is expected to fully recover, police said. She was treated by paramedics before her family took her to seek more medical attention, Bruchu said.
The Stillwater Police Department said officers believe "this was an isolated incident of an individual trying to flee the area" and that the man is no longer near Stillwater.
