Student Accused Of Drawing Threatening Image At Glenbard East

LOMBARD, IL — A 16-year-old boy is accused of making a threat against Glenbard East High School by drawing an image of a person with a bloody knife and including the caption, "school stabber at Glenbard East 120 dead." The boy was charged with disorderly conduct, threat to a school, in connection with the April 20 incident. Police say the teen drew the picture on a filing cabinet that belonged to a Glenbard East teacher. According to prosecutors, the image also depicted blood seeping out of school classrooms. "Any threat to the wellbeing of our students, teachers and school personnel will be taken very seriously," DuPage County State's Attorney Robert Berlin said in a news release. He added, "Students have got to understand that school threats are no joking matter and can have a chilling effect not just on students, teachers and staff, but also on parents, siblings and the entire community. As I have said in the past, anyone suspected of making a threat, even if made in jest, will be fully investigated and appropriately charged." Lombard Police Chief Roy Newton said, "Teachers can't teach, and students can't learn if they instead are concerned about their own personal safety. We must do all we can to ensure that our schools remain free from violence and threats of violence." The student is currently on detention lockdown at his home. He is set to appear in court again May 5.
