MINNETONKA, MN — A St. Paul man was on cocaine, methamphetamine and other drugs when he caused a fatal wrong-way crash on Highway 169 in the Minnetonka area, according to authorities. Selmon Rogers, 58, was charged in Hennepin County with one count of criminal vehicular homicide and one count of criminal vehicular operation. According to the complaint, on Jan. 28, 2021, troopers with the Minnesota State Patrol responded to a car crash on the southbound lanes of Highway 169 just south of the Bren Road Overpass. A man was taken to the Hennepin County Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. Rogers was also taken to the medical center, where blood tests revealed he had THC, cocaine, methamphetamine, fentanyl and norfentanyl in his system at the time of the crash, police said. Highway video cameras showed Rogers driving between an opening in the median barrier before heading in the wrong direction down the highway, according to authorities. A Minnesota State Patrol crash construction specialist concluded that Rogers caused the deadly collision, the criminal complaint states.
